Important: If more than one person uses the same computer, Outlook profiles don't offer as much privacy as separate user accounts in the Mac OS. Outlook profiles don't offer password protection, and Spotlight searches from the Finder will locate Outlook items from all the profiles in the current user account. To learn more about how to create user accounts, see Mac Help.
My Outlook for Mac 2011 keeps trying to delete everything in my in box. It started after I hit some random key on my keyboard by accident. Outlook preferences is grayed out and I can’t access it.

If you use Outlook in more than one capacity, such as for your personal life and for work, Outlook can be set up to handle these different capacities by using identities.
An identity is associated with and stores a set of e-mail messages, contacts, tasks, calendars, account settings, Scrapbook clips, and more. To manage identities, you must use the Microsoft Database Utility, which is installed as part of your Office installation. With this utility, you perform tasks such as creating a new identity, setting the default identity, and rebuilding an identity. When you open an Office application, it always uses the default identity. Important: If more than one person uses the same computer, Outlook identities don't offer as much privacy as separate user accounts in the Mac OS.
Outlook identities don't offer password protection, and Spotlight searches from the Finder will locate Outlook items from all the identities in the current user account. To learn more about how to create user accounts, see Mac OS Help. Create, rename, or delete an identity. Open the Microsoft Database Utility. The default location is in /Applications/Microsoft Office 2011/Office/.
Notes:. The data for each identity is stored in a separate folder in /Users/ username/Documents/Microsoft User Data/Office 2011 Identities/. schedules only run for the default identity. For a list of problems that may indicate that the database of an identity database is damaged, see Switch the identity used by Outlook In Entourage (available in previous versions of Office for Mac), it is possible to switch identities while Entourage is open. However, with Outlook, you must close Outlook and switch identities by using the Database Utility. Close Outlook.
Open the Microsoft Database Utility. The default location is in /Applications/Microsoft Office 2011/Office/.
In our company we use Mac Outlook 2011 (newest version), PC Outlook 2013 (newest version) and Exchange server 8.3.379.2. The PC Outlook mail content is synchronized properly between my iPhone Exchange mail account and OWA (Outlook Web Access). The content is synchronized in a few seconds without problems. However, the sync between Mac Outlook 2011 and the rest of the Exchange mail content is not working for me. My colleague has almost identical gear and he doesn't suffer from the problem.
We have no idea why. When I delete a message in Windows-Outlook, then the message gets fairly quickly deleted in my OSX-Outlook. But if I delete a message in OSX-Outlook, the message may rarely get deleted in Windows-Outlook in 60 seconds, but usually it just doesn't sync. So my Windows-Outlook has 500 messages in my Inbox and OSX-Outlook Inbox has 300 messages. I have already tried removing all subfolders in Inbox according to the 'best practices' but that didn't have any effect. If I create a new identity in OSX (Microsoft Database Utility), that temporarily fixes the sync. But as soon as I start deleting and moving messages in OSX Outlook, the changes just don't sync with the server, or the changes do not show in Windows Outlook for some other reason.
What can cause this behaviour? Hi distill, According to your description, I understand that Mac Outlook client cannot sync the content with Exchange server, however PC Outlook works fine. If I have misunderstand your concern, please do not hesitate to let me know.
This issue may be related to Mac client, please try to reset sync services and check if it helps:. If it fails, please create new user profile for Mac and set up the email account, then check the result. More details about it, please refer to: Additional, I recommend you post your question in the Mac Outlook forum so that you can get more professional suggestions.
For your convenience: Best Regards, Allen Wang.
